Time for another cottage update!

Our Master Bedroom

So the last update I gave you we were quite far off and had yet to have our fab builders start. Martin and Pat from Kaylea Services, Plymouth. Its been a blessing to have these two guys and the occasional labourer to kick start the house. These guys know exactly what they are doing and every night we get back there is nothing that we can fault. Always smiling and finding the funny side over things!

You could’ve cooked a turkey in that room. Never to complain about the gorgeous weather but it was way too hot to be working in a room that the heat was soaking directly through the slates on the roof but they cracked on thank fully.. Apart from feeling like they are working in a sauna each day they have LISTENED to everything we have asked for and answered any questions..

This has got to be the hardest room in the house. Purely because we are exposing all the beams and A frames. We have had to rip down the wall to make it one room and have had to rip off all the plaster in the entire room because they were cracked and in such a state. I am so glad we did because it needed a complete fresh start. Check out the previous blog on the house and you can see exactly how much it has progressed in such little time.

The windows will be going in on Thursday so even closer to our goal.

The end product will be a mixture of both of these rooms.

The end product will be a mixture of both of these rooms.

The difference between the goal images are that our bed will be going against the old stone fireplace. Adding another great feature. Now here’s for the updates

Atom Interior Styling Cottage Refurb

We are always one to recycle things where possible and what better way to use up the rock wool from when we ripped the ceiling down. We had the perfect amount but god what a hot itchy messy job.

So the next stage was to board. Being a 160 year old property the walls are far from straight. So everything is always a little more tricky than usual.

So we did these jobs at the weekend to help the progress for the builders the following week. Whilst holding the Sterling board in place whilst be screwed in, I was studying how the board looks and I have to say. I really love the finish, to me it’s fascinating to see how the board has been made and it is no wonder that it is used for a final finish in some homes. This doesn’t suit the character of our home so we will be plaster boarding, but check out below how you can use a really reasonably priced material and make it look top notch.

Now plaster boarding sounds like the easy part but according to the builders not when you have a ceiling like ours. Oops sorry guys.

This has made such a difference to the room, bringing it back together piece by piece. We are so glad we decided to rip the ceiling down and expose these stunning beams. Seeing exactly how the house was built. Even the hand made nails that we have come across. Its bringing it back to it’s former glory.

As you can see the back view window has now been made bigger check out the second picture. Taking the wall down to create the large master bedroom we have now got this stunning view of Brent Tor to wake up to everyday..

So that’s all for now folks.

The next update will be soon and looking forward to getting my mood board ready for everything I have up my sleeve for the interior styling side of it.

Love Claire x
