Why I love to declutter organise and restyle and whats it really all about!

So recently I have been promoting and advertising my decluttering and organising service to my customers and subscribers but I wanted to explain a little more about why I love doing it, how it can benefit the client in so many ways and how it can change your home in many ways.

Storage doesn’t have to be ugly you can utilise items like this gorgeous trunk

For me decluttering and organising helps me bring clarity to my home. After a stressful week when I get home I don’t want to look at areas that are also making me feel stressed. Our lives are busy and hectic enough for most of us without feeling it when you eventually sit down of an evening.

I want to sit down in my home and like what I am looking at. We are in still the midst of doing up our home so its even harder to keep it in order but the areas that are completed are sorted and organised allowing us to utilise that room with ease and comfort.

I will give you an example of why it’s important to me to be organised and clear of clutter.

So at the moment there is constant dust everywhere in the house due to ceilings being down, wood being cut etc. I am constantly cleaning the areas that have been completed in the house so they continue to look nice.

Now if I was to have lots of stuff on the work tops in the kitchen (which is completed) and on the sideboards I would be for ever lifting and moving things from one spot to the other in order to the clean the surface. Don’t get me wrong I do have things on my worktops but I have things that I use everyday.

So what I don’t have are items that don’t really have a home and aren’t used. This is classed as clutter. its not a bad thing to have because most people are too busy in their lives due to work commitments, children, grandchildren or even caring for others to worry about whats on their worktops but I can assure you that once you’ve hit those problem areas life at home becomes so easy.

I have open shelves in my kitchen and the only wall unit I have in there is Glass so everything in it has to look visibly pleasing and is used maybe not everyday but its used at some point. On the shelves I have everything in storage jars that are labelled, who knew there were so many rices LOL oh and tea bags that all look the same, Mint, Rooibus, Earl Grey??? Labelling my jars allows me to see exactly what I’m running out of and stops me from blind buying when I do the food shop. If you blind buy you end up getting things that you already have and you then need to find a space to store it? However if you buy in bulk the utility if you have one is a room to store bulk buys.

Keep my jars labelled allows me to do a shopping list rather than blind buying.

My base units have items in that I use daily or weekly. I then have one cupboard and one drawer that have items in that I will utilise on special occasions like dinner parties, seasonal events etc. That cupboard is full of serving dishes, trays and bowls and the drawer full of serve ware utensils, cheese board knives etc. What Im trying to say is I just keep items that I know I use frequently or that I know for sure I will use at some point throughout the year.

Doing this allows me to know exactly where everything is kept and everyone else does too, so you don’t get everyone in your household saying where is this, where is that. This saves on time as well. Working full time means that each second, minute or hour is precious who the hell wants to be spending that precious time off looking for oven gloves or cheese graters? I think you know where I’m coming from.

Tea Coffee and breakfast corner

Arranging my kitchen in the way above allows the mornings to be super easy and relaxed. Everything is in the same area. These are just little examples of why I love decluttering and organising because the end result is not only making your life easy but it also looks nice too.

It’s not until you start to sort you’re things out that you realise how ,much of it you don’t actually use and you then realise how much space it takes up. Why do we have cupboards full of DVD’s that we never watch because we have them online like Netflix or You Tube etc. Yet we keep them for the idea of that they maybe worth something one day, if thats the case pop them in a storage box label them and put them away in the attic or basement? Then you can use that cupboard for the items that you use and that actually have no home because the cupboard was stuffed full of stuff you don’t actually use. Are you getting me now? Then the pile of stuff that you look at day and night thinking you must find a home for suddenly disappears and that horrible niggling feeling then goes away. Ahhhhh back to feeling calm.

Good storage can still look great.

So thats just a couple of reasons why I find decluttering and being organised such a useful thing to do.

Lots of people also say that they cant afford such a luxury of someone coming into help them with their troubled areas of their homes or even the whole home but if you look at it in this way you may think twice.

I said earlier about blind buying when you’re shopping. This doesn’t just mean food this means buying clothes or bags or shoes. Whatever little luxury you like to spend your money on. If you just look at why you’re actually buying those clothes is it because you need them or because you think sod it I’m going to treat myself. Those couple of minutes of you feeling excited because you’re going to treat your self literally only lasts for minutes. because you then take that garment home pop it into your already overflowing wardrobe, you do this again and again adding to your clutter problems. If you take that money that you were spending on buying those clothes or shoes that you don’t actually need and you know are making your stress issues at home worse and spend it on a declutter service even only if its for a few hour slot then that will last you sooooooo much longer allowing you to recycle, donate, sell, or purge responsibly.

So you then can see what you have and what you need, so when you do go to treat your self every now and then you really do deserve it and the bonus is your stress and feeling of anxiousness has gone because your feeling more organised in your self and your free time isn’t sat around looking at jobs you know you need to get done but never do or are taking up so much of your precious free time.

My 5 Reasons behind Decluttering, Organising and Restyling.

  1. Reduces Stress and Anxiety

Why ? because you’re going home to your peaceful, tidy and visually pleasing space. No more trying to relax in a space that is full of things you just don’t need or even like.

  2. Better Sleep

Why? because your bedroom is now your relaxing haven, just like a hotel room feels. No more going to bed stressed about what you’re sleeping around and how you stub your toe or piles of stuff getting up in the middle of the night to go for a wee.

  3. Improves Productivity and creativeness

Why? because you now can see the full potential of your space and you can now add your style and be creative. your get things done quicker when things are organised and have a place. If your a crafter then you can create and store your supplies easily allowing you to show your full potential and well as your homes.

  4. Save Money

Why? because you’re not blind buying anymore, everything that you use daily is visible or easy to find allowing you to see exactly what you need to buy. You’re not over spending. or you’re selling items that you don’t want and you’re actually pulling some money back in.

  5. Gain Confidence and Self Esteem

Why? because you’re not embarrassed about your home anymore, Your self esteem is now flying because you’re getting so many compliments on how lovely your home looks and how much people love your style. This is because you have created more visibly pleasing areas in your home even if it’s replacing a pile of paper work with a gorgeous house plant or that vase you forgot you had as it was hidden by a pile of clothes.
